Get More From Your Solar With Battery Storage

Solar Battery Design & Installation

Over a third of Queensland homes now generate their own power, according to the Clean Energy Regulator. If you’re already generating solar, why export your solar then import at night for 5x the price? When you could store that power and use it when you need it most? A solar battery puts more of your own energy to work, helping you cut grid reliance, take control of your power bills and get greater value from your solar investment.

The right system makes all the difference. Whether you’re adding a battery to an existing solar system or planning a new solar and battery installation, RAD NRG will give you straight advice, quality components and a system tailored to your needs.

More Storage. Less Wasted Energy.

Store excess electricity your panels generate during the day and use it at night, instead of importing the same energy you export at 5x the price.

Reduce Your Power Bills

Use more of your own stored energy during evening peak periods to reduce the amount of electricity you need to buy from your retailer.

Keep Essential Power Running

Battery backup can protect your property in the event of a blackout and power your essential circuits.

Over the moon with our recent Sig Energy install that Ryan completed for us. We’d been messed around by a few sales-driven companies beforehand, so finally dealing with Ryan — someone who actually tailored the system to our household’s needs from start to finish — was a breath of fresh air. Ryan guided us through the entire process and clearly explained the different inverter and battery brands, along with the pros and cons of each. That made it easy to choose the right setup for our home, and with his experience we always felt we were in safe hands. We also had a full switchboard upgrade, which now means we can use the battery when the power goes out — a massive bonus! We ended up choosing a 32 kWh battery with a 10 kW 3-phase inverter, and we couldn’t be happier. We’ll definitely be passing Ryan’s number on to friends and family who are interested. We haven’t used one unit from the grid since installed 😍

Get the Battery Size Right From the Start

Bigger isn’t always better. The right solar battery is one that matches your energy use, your property’s electrical characteristics and what you want to get out of your system, without paying for capacity you won’t use.

Our team assesses your property, reviews your energy needs and bills then helps you choose a system that delivers practical value now, with room to grow if your circumstances change.

Usable Capacity (kWh)

This is how much stored energy you can use. We look at your evening and overnight consumption to work out how much capacity makes sense for your home, rather than recommending a battery based on headline figures alone.

Power Output (kW)

Capacity tells you how much energy you can store; output determines how much power you can draw at once. We consider high-demand circuits throughout your switchboard to help ensure your system can handle the loads that matter.

Phase and Expandability

Your property’s electrical supply and future plans both matter. We’ll check whether your home is single-phase or three-phase, assess compatibility with your existing equipment and explore whether a battery system makes sense for your situation.

Solar Battery Rebates and Eligibility

A quality solar battery could be more affordable than you think. With the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, eligible Queensland homeowners can access an upfront discount on their battery installation, helping reduce the cost of storing and using their own solar power.

Queensland's Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The federal program provides a discount on eligible battery systems through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The discount is applied to your installation cost by your installer, meaning you don’t need to manage a separate rebate application yourself.

The amount you can claim depends on your battery’s usable capacity, eligibility and installation date. While the program has offered discounts of around 30% on eligible systems, the value is scheduled to reduce over time. The rebate drops biannually up until 2030.

Could Your Property Be Eligible?

  • Battery capacity: The program supports eligible systems within the applicable capacity limits, with support capped at the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.
  • Solar connection: Your battery must connect to a new or existing eligible solar PV system.
  • Approved equipment: The battery and relevant equipment must meet the program’s requirements.
  • Accredited installation: Installation must meet the program’s accreditation and electrical compliance requirements.
  • Virtual power plant capability: The battery must meet the applicable VPP capability requirements, although joining a VPP is not necessarily required

Rebate values and eligibility depend on your installation date. We’ll explain applicable requirements, factor any eligible discount into your quote and help you choose a battery that suits your energy needs and budget.

Quality Battery Storage at a Price That Fits Your Needs

System Configuration

Typical Installed Cost Range (after rebates)

10 kW solar + 10 kWh battery storage

$13,000 – $15,000

10 kW solar + 20 kWh battery storage

$15,000 – $20,000

The final cost depends on your chosen battery brand and capacity, roof access, switchboard requirements and network connection needs. We’ll assess your property and provide a detailed, itemised quote based on the work involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eligible battery installations may qualify for the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which provides an upfront discount through participating installers. The discount depends on the system’s eligible usable capacity, applicable program rules and installation date, and is scheduled to change over time. Queensland’s previous Battery Booster program is no longer active. RAD NRG can help you understand the requirements and confirm the applicable discount for your proposed system.

The total cost depends on battery capacity, brand, inverter compatibility, your existing electrical setup and any additional work required. As a guide, a 10 kW solar system with 10 kWh of battery storage may cost around $13,000–$15,000 installed, while a 10 kW system with 20 kWh of storage may cost around $15,000–$20,000 after applicable rebates. These are indicative ranges, not a fixed quote. RAD NRG assesses your property and provides an itemised estimate based on your requirements.

Yes, we offer solar battery finance options. Ask our team about the available arrangements during your consultation.

It depends on when you use electricity, how much excess solar you generate, your electricity tariff and the cost of installing a suitable battery. Households that use substantial power in the evening may benefit from storing daytime solar instead of exporting it and buying electricity back later. Businesses with after-hours equipment or refrigeration may also benefit.

Often, yes. Compatibility depends on your existing inverter, system age and capacity, switchboard and battery requirements. An AC-coupled battery can often be added alongside an existing solar inverter, while a hybrid inverter can manage solar and battery storage together. RAD NRG will assess your current setup and explain whether a battery addition, inverter upgrade or alternative configuration makes the most practical sense.

Capacity, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), indicates how much energy a battery can store and supply over time. Power output, measured in kilowatts (kW), indicates how much power it can deliver at once. Both are important: a battery may have plenty of stored energy but still be unable to run several high-demand appliances simultaneously if its output is limited.

Batteries can suit households that use more electricity after sunset, solar owners who export substantial excess generation during the day, and businesses with evening loads or equipment that needs power outside solar production hours. If most of your electricity is already used during the day, or your solar system generates little excess energy, a battery may offer less value.

Most straightforward residential battery installations can be completed in one day. More complex projects involving switchboard upgrades, additional electrical work or larger systems may take one to two days or longer. We will discuss the expected timeframe for your property before installation begins

Yes. For grid-connected systems within the Ergon Energy network, RAD NRG coordinates the required applications, technical documentation and connection requirements. This helps ensure the installation follows the applicable network rules and approval process.

Yes. Battery installations must meet applicable Queensland electrical safety requirements, Australian Standards and network connection rules. RAD NRG’s SAA accredited licenced electricians assess the site, install the equipment and complete the required electrical compliance documentation.

Yes. High temperatures and direct sunlight can affect battery performance, so location is an important part of system design. Depending on the battery manufacturer’s requirements and your property’s layout, a suitable location may be a garage or a covered, well-ventilated area. We’ll assess the available space, clearances, ventilation and environmental exposure to determine an appropriate installation position.

Most modern battery systems include an app or monitoring platform that lets you view available information about solar generation, battery charge, household consumption and grid imports or exports. The information available varies by manufacturer and system configuration. RAD NRG will help configure your monitoring and explain how to use it during handover.

Your options depend on the issue, equipment manufacturer and applicable warranty terms. RAD NRG can help you understand the next steps, including troubleshooting, monitoring information and manufacturer support where required. Warranty coverage and response arrangements vary by product, so these details should be confirmed when selecting your system.

A battery lets you store some of your excess daytime solar generation for use later, potentially reducing the amount of electricity you buy from the grid in the evening. This can be particularly useful when the value of exported solar is lower than the price you pay to import electricity.

For regional Queensland customers on the regulated feed-in tariff, the Queensland Competition Authority set the 2026–27 rate at 6.006 cents per kWh, effective from 1 July 2026. Your actual feed-in tariff may differ depending on your retailer and electricity plan.
