Solar and Battery Installation

Queensland has more solar panels per household than any other state in Australia. Over a third of Queensland homes now generate their own power, according to the Clean Energy Regulator. The next step for most of them is a battery, and the federal government is now subsidising it.

RAD NRG designs and installs solar and battery systems for homes and businesses across Queensland. Every system is designed for your property’s load profile, roof orientation and your network connection requirements.

Why Solar and Battery Makes Sense in Queensland Right Now

The financial case for adding battery storage has changed significantly in 2026.

The Queensland Competition Authority has set the regional feed-in tariff at 8.66 cents per kilowatt-hour for 2025-26. The QCA’s draft determination for 2026-27 proposes reducing this to 6.15 cents per kilowatt-hour, a 29% reduction. At 6.15 cents, every kilowatt-hour you export to the grid earns roughly one-fifth of what it costs to buy power back in the evening peak.

A battery changes that equation. Instead of exporting surplus solar at 6.15 cents, you store it and use it when electricity costs 30-40 cents per kilowatt-hour. That difference is where the return on a battery system comes from.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, administered by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), currently provides a rebate of approximately $330 per kilowatt-hour of usable battery capacity. For a 10kWh system, that is roughly $3,300 off the installed price.

What a Solar and Battery System Includes

A complete solar and battery installation from RAD NRG covers:

  • Site assessment and system design, sized to your household or business energy consumption
  • Quality solar panels (25 – 30 year warranty)
  • String or hybrid inverter, specified by battery integration
  • Battery storage system, eligible for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate
  • Switchboard assessment and any required upgrades
  • Grid connection application and network approval (Ergon Energy)
  • SAA-accredited installation and commissioning
  • Monitoring system setup so you can track production and usage in real time

Each component is carefully selected to provide you with the maximum output and return on investment.

What It Costs

These are typical installed costs for quality residential systems installed by a reputable installer after the STC solar rebate and federal battery rebate applied:

System Configuration

Indicative After-Rebate Cost

6.6kW solar only

$6,500 – $9,000

10kW solar only

$10,000 – $13,000

10kW solar + 10kWh battery

$13,000 – $15,000

10kW solar + 20kWh battery

$15,000 – $20,000

Costs vary with roof complexity, switchboard condition, network connection requirements, and component selection. A site assessment gives you an accurate figure for your specific property.
